Observing a Spider Making Its Web

I observed a spider making its web in my backyard last week. It was small and black, with eight thin legs. I sat on a chair, watching quietly. The spider started by spinning a long thread that stuck to a tree branch. Then it made a frame, like a circle. Next, it wove lines from the center to the frame—like a wheel. It moved quickly, and the web took an hour to finish. A fly flew into the web, and the spider wrapped it in silk. My mom said spiders help control bugs. I didn’t disturb the web. Every day, I checked it—sometimes the wind broke it, and the spider made a new one. Observing the spider taught me about nature’s hard workers. I learned that every creature has an important job.
