Growing Cherry Tomatoes on the Balcony
I planted cherry tomato seeds in small pots on my balcony in spring. I placed them where they’d get lots of sunlight and watered them every other day. For weeks, only tiny green sprouts appeared, and I worried they wouldn’t grow. But by June, the plants had grown tall, with green leaves and small yellow flowers. Last week, I noticed tiny green tomatoes hanging from the vines—no bigger than my thumbnail. I checked them every day, watching them turn from green to yellow, then to bright red. Yesterday, I picked my first cherry tomato and ate it right away. It was sweet and juicy, better than any tomato from the grocery store. Now, more tomatoes are ripening, and I plan to put them in salads or eat them as snacks. Growing my own food feels rewarding, even if it’s just a few small tomatoes.
